DMOS Collective Digs Into Utah, Relocates Operations to Accommodate Business Growth

Salt Lake City will welcome another outdoor manufacturer to its roster this week, as DMOS Collective, a manufacturer and retailer of professional-grade and American-made car, off-road, and snow shovels, storage products, and goods, relocates their operations and warehouse to Salt Lake City. Joining the ranks of other adventure and outdoor enthusiast retail and manufacturing businesses, the company, known for its lightweight, packable, and durable car shovels, will expand their operations through increased manufacturing and hiring.

“While our headquarters will remain in Wyoming, it was absolutely the right time to take the next step and make the move of our operations to Salt Lake to support our growth,” said Susan Pieper, founder and CEO.  “We wanted to find a place that was close to our strategic suppliers and partners, and also had a larger talent pool to draw from to build our team, while still remaining in the heart of the outdoor industry.  We’re excited that it’s in Utah.”

Founded in 2015, DMOS Collective got its start with a successful Kickstarter campaign for a tough, packable shovel that could thrive under heavy loads in remote, mountain environments.  Since then, DMOS has leveraged its mountain knowledge to build an entire product line of shovels, mounts, and kits that allow users to get themselves unstuck and back on the road.  DMOS has also earned numerous industry awards and accolades.  Today, DMOS exists to serve a broad collective of rugged individuals who all believe in the power of the right tool for the job and want that tool to be always at hand and never in the way.  DMOS is sold direct to consumers as well as through premium off-road, overland, and van build dealers and outdoor and sporting goods retailers such as REI.

“The move to Utah made sense to us as it allows us to better achieve our mission to be a world-class manufacturer of premium car recovery and storage essentials.  As a brand, DMOS stands for the power of self-reliance and we make products that help people get unstuck and back on the road.  So, while moving is not easy, true to our mission, we ‘unstuck’ ourselves and are accelerating our growth by making this move to Utah,” said Pieper.

Pieper is no stranger to business strategy as earlier in her career she worked for the management consultancy, McKinsey & Company, and she earned her MBA with Honors from Harvard Business School. “When I worked in finance, I worked in New York City and when I worked in tech, I lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay area.  So, now building a company in the outdoors industry, it makes sense for DMOS to relocate to Salt Lake which is such a vibrant, business-friendly, entrepreneurial hub for companies like ours.  I am excited to drive DMOS’s growth in Salt Lake and also to participate in the broader start-up and entrepreneurial community found here," she added.

The move has been executed by the DMOS team, with support from a number of organizations, including EDCUtah.  The company will begin shipping from their new location as early as the last week of October.
